The most interesting feature of this game, is just how massive these battles can become, and watching 200 soldiers do their own thing is…impressive - Each soldier has its own battle AI that it follows, even if you give it orders. You are able to command your units through divisions or just let them do their own thing. You can also join figths or have other join your figthers, making it massive things with 500 soldiers running around on the battlefield at the same time. Battles are fought out in first person, either by you alone, or your band / army against the enemy. The meat of the game though, is of course Combat, through which you attain most goals (Except marriage).

There are lords, kings, bandits, highwaymen, robbers, farmers, caravans all traipsing around, and you can talk with, or attack or help them all. You can wander around the villages, towns and castles, but most of the movement is going on realtime on the worldmap where tons of realtime movement happens at the same time.

  • Join a faction and become its war marshall, leading all the other lords to war.
  • Become a trade mogul, earning a ton of money.
  • Become a mercenary captain fighting for a nation.
  • At its most basic, M&B is a sandbox world simulation with focus and emphasis on combat and goals attained through the same.

So, like at least once a year every year, I’ve had a week of intense Mount & Blade warband gaming, again with the mod Prophecy of Pendor, and once more it struck me - Why don’t we have more games like this? Newer games, better games, AAA games?įirst, for those who are unaware about the nature of the game, let me try to explain it.
